St. Francis de Sales higher secondary School, Narengi

SFS School, Narengi, popularly called “Coca Cola School” in the initial days, and inaugurated by late Mr Joseph Toppo, a Minister in the Government of Assam, was opened in 1998. The school began with 72 students in Class I and three teaching staff. Before the construction of the present school building, the school functioned in an already existing coca cola factory which was furnished for this purpose and later demolished in order to construct the present school building by 2006.

From its very inception, St Francis de Sales School aimed at teaching gentleness, loving kindness, persuasion and patience. Within a short span of seven years the school was accorded the official permissions for opening class eight by the Director of Secondary Education, Assam, on September 26, 2005. The salubrious atmosphere, community culture, high degree of discipline, excellent teaching practice, state of the art facilities, multiplicity of avenues for all- round growth of the individual, coupled with an able and efficient administration have drawn appreciative accolades from various educational departments.

The School attained the CBSE permission and the certificate of a minority institution in April 2008. It has been upgraded to a Higher Secondary School in 2012 offering admissions to Science, Commerce and Humanities streams with all the necessary infrastructure and furnished laboratories, labs, media centre and yoga room. The school has a healthy mix of students from various socio-economic backgrounds and religious faith. The school follows a systematic and comprehensive 360-degree feedback and appraisal for teaching staff.

Every year, since 2005, the school successfully organizes S.F.S Challenger’s Basketball Trophy, which has become the most covetous and sought after tournament in the city. In this tournament including SEBA and CBSE, 20 to 25 schools from all over Assam participate with great enthusiasm. Desalite Connect, ‘an in-house developed software’, is for the purpose of communication with parents, students and management. SFS school-star class & star assembly award is awarded to the best class in the school every month based on certain criteria like assembly prayer song, anchoring, speech, news reading, special program etc. Every Teacher of the school gets nominated for being the Star Teacher award. Based on the teacher’s performance appraisal, a software has been specially installed to assess the performance of every teacher based on which the Star Teacher Awardee is chosen.

As the school completes 18 years of its existence, it has over 1600 students (Class I-XII), 70 teaching staff and 20 non-teaching staff with a state of the art infrastructure, well established and furnished laboratories, computer labs, sports and games facilities, WiFi enabled campus and above all a home-away- from-home atmosphere. The school follows CBSE syllabus and is one of the most sought after institutions in the city for its quality. The school has a comprehensive and continuous performance evaluation system. The school visualises inculcating in every child a scientific temper, critical thinking, value based life skills and love of God and respect for all men.

For the last 18 years, the school has provided ample opportunities for the students to participate in numerous inter-school, inter-district, regional, national and international level competitions. Along with that the school has successfully maintained its commitments to uphold the values of universal brotherhood, secularism, democracy, justice, liberty and fraternity in all matters concerning the socio-economic and cultural life of the individual and society. The school always focuses on equipping the younger generation with the life-skills required to become catalysts of social transformation, votaries of national integration and ambassadors of universal brotherhood.
