SFS Secondary School, Bahalpur (Chapar)

SFS Secondary School was opened on 22nd January 2003 under the title St. Jude School. Later, it was renamed as SFS School in January 2005. Although the school had a good start with Fr. Anto as the headmaster and some qualified teachers from kerala in the staff, the poor infrastructure, lack of communication and transportation facilities hindered the expected progress of the school in terms of enrolment. The issue was addressed by providing rickshaw service to the students for a year. It was discontinued by the end of the year as it was found unsuccessful. In 2005, a private bus service was introduced and even that was discontinued after one-and-a-half years.

However, the academic ambience of the campus, the quality of services provided, the personal contact with parents, the discipline of students, the performance of school in co-curricular activities, and new infrastructural growth gradually attracted more children to the school. Parents and Parent Teacher Association (PTA) provided strong local support in the initial stages of the school. The first President of the Parents-Association of the school, late Mr Naresh Chandra Rai, was of great help in solving the initial local problems and getting the support of the locality. He always stood for the good of the institution.

In 2004 the ground floor of the school was built while the first and second floors were added between 2006 and 2009. The school at present has all the basic infrastructure. Three well-structured modern toilet blocks built in 2016 - one each for boys, girls and teachers- solved one of the longstanding needs of the institution. Today, it has grown into a full-fledged secondary school (From LKG –class X) with 825 students (of which 65 are Catholics), 25 teaching staff and three non-teaching staff. Two sisters and two fathers engage in the school both for teaching and administration.

The quality of education in SFS was first tested in 2014 when six of its students appeared for the HSLC examination. The results showed hundred percent pass with 3 distinctions and 3 star marks. In 2015 and 2016, 24 and 12 students respectively appeared for the public examinations and kept up the reputation of the school with hundred percent pass.
