St Francis de Sales School , Somonpara
In 2005, Fr Antony Anbukumar, the Parish Priest of St Peter’s Church, Purakasia, opened a school and named it St Antony’s School at Somonpara. In 2009, Franciscan Brothers of CMSF came to support the school and they changed the name to St Francis Assisi School. For some reasons, the brothers left the place in April 2013.
In 2014 the school was named St Francis de Sales School and upgraded to Class VII. The school introduced bus service (School bus) in the same year to transport children from far flung villages. By 2015 there were 294 students in the school, 35 percent being Catholics and 65 percent non- catholic Christians. Mermier Boys’ Home, with 10 boys, started to function in 2015. In 2015, two feeder Nursery schools were started to give greater push for education at Achapara and Dabelagre.
The foundation for the new school building was laid by Fr Joseph Thazhathukunnel msfs on May 20, 2015. Fr Shiju Poomarathinkal and Noble Nakathinkal, as a deacon, assisted the centre before they left for Africa.
