Fransalian Counselling Centre: Lengpui
Since the opening of the Sateek Mission, efforts were made to purchase a suitable land in view of the future needs of the Province’s mission. Permission was sought from the bishop with the condition that the property would be used either for Formation or Social ministry. This search eventually led to the purchase of a piece of property in the vicinity of Lengpui airport. It was fenced and then left unused till 2015.
With a view to open a centre for providing spiritual guidance and counselling services, the Provincial Administration sent Fr Francis Thadathil to Mizoram in April 2015. For the next three months, Fr Francis stayed at Sateek Mission, exploring the possibility of taking a house on rent at Lengpui. The house belonging to the MSMHC sisters at Lengpui was vacant. Provincial made negotiation with the MSMHC authorities and it was informed that the house would be available for the use of the MSFS from July 2015. Fr Francis reached this house on July 3, 2015, on the feast of St Thomas the Apostle. However, the house was in a dilapidated condition. It was rented out to the DB Tech for giving training in skills to the youth. It took a whole month to clean up and to complete the necessary repairs and painting in order to make it liveable.
People are excited about our plan to build a Centre which would give spiritual and counselling services. Efforts are being made to contact catholic leaders with a view to build up a greater lay collaboration for this new venture of the MSFS in Mizoram. An alarming rise of issues related to marriage and family life, drug addiction, substance abuse, and suicide-these and other reasons show the dire need which a centre can fill in. The Centre, with its varied services, has the potential to attract people of all walks of life and faith. It will open up possibilities for a new evangelization of everyone who comes seeking. The catholics there are longing for a Centre where they can get spiritual renewal and guidance.
